A decoy built to attract hostile attention so you can study it. Not a substitute for patching production.
A honeypot is a system placed to attract hostile activity so defenders can watch methods and improve response. It is research and detection, not a moat.
Isolate it. Do not route real secrets through it. Do not confuse a quiet honeypot with a quiet estate.
